Kendal Town’s players continued to give everything, despite losing 1-0 to Mossley at the weekend.

The players battled and were unfortunate not to have taken at least a point against an opponent going for promotion.

Kendal fielded a depleted team and four of the starting 11 played despite having the flu. To make matters worse there were only three substitutes for Kendal Town manager David Foster to choose from.

However, on a more positive note, Kendal gave a debut to Dan Ashton. Ashton, who comes from Kendal’s development centre, impressed on his debut, while Jay Hayton who is also another local player, was a constant thorn in the Mossley back line.

Mossley did what they had to do. In the end one set piece was the difference. Other than that there was nothing between the two sides.

From Kendal’s perspective they remain four points adrift from safety, and with difficult away games at Prescot and Atherton to follow, things are looking bleak.

During the game the Kendal Town Supporters Club went around the ground with a donation bucket and all the proceeds raised went towards the player’s wages.

The commitment and solidarity shown by the supporters was a huge positive. In a season where there have been criticisms about attendance and everything else it was good to see the supporters stick together and do their part in helping the team to survive.

Long term, I will be interested to see what happens next. The club is meant to be meeting with the supporters at some stage although a date for that meeting has not yet been confirmed.

The action points in the club's statement sound positive, but they need to hold the meeting and get everyone working in the same direction.

Time is of the essence and I just hope that the club can get itself out of trouble both on and off the pitch!
