New Year's Day brought plenty of talking points for Kendal Town as they drew 2-2 with Clitheroe in the huge relegation game at the bottom end of the table.

Both sides played their part in a good game of football, which was watched by a very strong crowd of 197.

Kendal had to battle back from going 2-1 behind before Scott Harries rescued them in the last minute and the points were shared.

The result stops Kendal's run of defeats. However, they remain in trouble and are now four points from safety after relegation rivals Glossop North End picked up a shock 1-0 win at Colne.

Kendal battled and played well despite their current predicament. In fact over the last three games there has been a significant improvement in the team’s performances, which gives the Kendal fans some hope.

Clitheroe capitalised on two mistakes and found themselves 2-1 up with 16 minutes to go in the game. At that stage I feared for Kendal as they were on the verge of losing a game in which they needed a result.

However, Harries rescued Kendal in injury time and while it was just a point they at least avoided defeat.

Kendal played Jay Hayton, who was signed from Burneside. Hayton, a local lad, did well once he was brought on in the second half. He almost scored a wonder goal only to be denied by a great save from the Clitheroe 'keeper.

Moving forward, Kendal need to start winning games. There are still opportunities but the team has to capitalise and quickly.

This weekend (weather permitting) sees Kendal entertain in-form Mossley in what will be the last home game for two weeks. Kendal face a difficult couple of games in which they have to travel to both Atherton and Prescot.
