Two second-half goals by Brad Lynch were enough to see the Reds safely through after an entertaining

end-to-end game.

Colne pushed forward in the opening minutes and  Wagas Azam forced a good save from Kendal keeper Stuart Dixon to push his close-range shot round the near post. As play switched to the other end, Reds keeper Jordan Gidley got down well to save a well-struck low shot by Aaron Fleming.

As Kendal won a series of set pieces,  Jonathan Hodgkinson and  Simon Nangle made good headed clearances from their penalty area. And Colne might have taken the lead on the half-hour when  Joe Gaughan fired over the visitor's bar from a close-range chance in a period of pressure by the Reds.

Debutant defender Frank Jones was outstanding in Colne’s defence and did not hesitate to drive forward with some good runs when the occasion warranted creating good opportunities for team-mates.

As the second half began, Colne stepped up the pressure on the visitors’ goal with some well built attacking moves. And Nangle’s through ball on the hour sent Gaughan into the penalty area but he lifted his shot over the bar with just the keeper to beat.

At the other end, Callum Fawcett saw his shot deflected wide of the Colne goal in a dangerous attack. And Fleming’s free-kick was cleared from the Reds penalty area by some resolute defending.

Colne came close after 68 minutes when Azam’s cross eluded everybody in a packed goalmouth and flew just wide of the far post. But the Reds went one better two minutes later when Lynch cut in from the left wing and fired a shot into the bottom corner of the net to give Colne the lead.

Colne pushed forward looking for a second goal but in the closing stages, the game swung in the visitor's favour and the Reds defence blocked shots in their penalty area in a series of attacks. After 85 minutes, Gidley made a good save to push Matthew Clarke’s shot over his crossbar and when the resulting corner was cleared to the other end, Matty Morgan's through ball released Gaughan through the middle but Dixon was out of his area quickly to clear the danger.

With time running out, Colne made the game safe when Lynch broke away leaving the defender trailing and drew the keeper before slotting home his second goal in a fitting finale to the game.
