Kendal Town crashed to an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to bottom of the table Goole at The ST&B Accountants Stadium on Saturday.

Goole opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Kendal’s Gavin Clark inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Kendal equalised five minutes later through Steven Yawson, but second half goals by Scott Smith and Steven Smith condemned Kendal to defeat, while Goole picked up only their sixth win of the season.

Kendal controlled the opening twelve minutes without creating too many opportunities, but while they dominated possession, the visitors defended well and saw off any danger.

Goole broke the deadlock after a quarter of an hour when Emile Sinclair’s ball across the penalty area was turned into the net for an own goal by Clark.

Sinclair was allowed time and space to cut inside from the by line before Clark got the final touch, leaving Johnson stranded in the Kendal goal.

Kendal equalised five minutes later when Morecambe loanee Yawson finished from close range. He was set up Brad Carroll who had initially played a good ball into the penalty area.

However, despite getting back into the game, Kendal stopped passing the ball for the remainder of the first half while Goole almost regained the lead on the stroke of half time when Scott Smith's effort was turned away for a corner by Johnson.

Goole made an imposing start to the second half and created the better opportunities, most notably through Sinclair and Smith who both saw their shots blocked by Stuart McDonald and Clark.

The visitors did retake the lead after 57 minutes when a corner in from the left by Steven Jeffs was volleyed into the net by Scott Smith.

From that point, Goole controlled the game and created further opportunities through Horton and Smith.

Kendal missed a glorious opportunity to score with four minutes left on the clock when Buchan side footed the ball straight into the hands of Saynar in the Goole goal.

Goole sealed the victory in injury time after Steven Smith saw his effort on goal deflect into the net.
