Kendal Town picked up their first home league win of the season on Tuesday with 4-2 victory against Trafford on a wet and miserable night at The Pye Motors Stadium.

The Mintcakes were 2-1 down at half time after goals by Paul Linwood and Scott Sephton cancelled out Connor Gaul’s opening strike for the hosts.

However, a second-half brace by Charlie Bowman and a Rick Sear effort saw Kendal run out comfortable winners.

Both teams created opportunities in the opening exchanges as Seear dragged the ball wide of the left hand post for the hosts, before Trafford’s Aaron Burns forced Will Kitchen into action with the former Morecambe shot stopper parrying the ball away for a corner.

Kendal opened the scoring after 11 minutes when Gaul turned inside the area before drilling the ball into the top right hand corner of the net. The former Colne player evaded the Trafford defenders before his powerful effort left the visiting keeper stranded.

Trafford equalised five minutes later when a free kick from the right hand side was headed into the net by Linwood, who was left with plenty of space in the area to power the ball home from close range.

From that point, the Mintcakes struggled as Trafford went 2-1 up when Sephton finished the ball into the bottom corner of the net following a dangerous corner by Louis Corrigan.

Trafford enjoyed a spell of possession with the visitors creating plenty of opportunities through Aaron Burns and Jason St Just. Burns, who was a constant threat, hit the bar while Will Kitchen had to push away St Just's powerful drive on goal.

Kendal’s best opportunity fell to Anthony Lynch who fired the ball wide from a free kick.

In the second half, Kendal were more dominant as Paul Dawson tested Trafford goalkeeper Grant Shenton while Ben Thomas and Bowman also went close.

Kendal equalised after 63 minutes when a good delivery into the box by Gaul was headed into the bottom left by Bowman.

David Foster’s team had all the possession and were playing their best football of the season while Trafford continuously kicked the ball away from danger.

Kendal went 3-2 up in the 77th minute when the referee pointed to the penalty spot following an infringement in the box. Bowman stepped up and finished past Shenton to put the Mintcakes ahead.

The home side rounded off a dominant second half when Gaul’s pin point delivery across the penalty box was finished at the back post by Seear who nipped in and scored from close range.

Kendal travel to Glossop North End on Saturday before hosting Ramsbottom United on Tuesday night.
