(Yawson's second goal the pick of the bunch)

Loanee Steven Yawson scored a hattrick to guide Kendal Town to a comprehensive 5-0 win over Droylsden at the Pye Motors Stadium.

Yawson, who signed for the Mintcakes on a one-month deal from League Two side Morecambe last week, opened the scoring after 25 minutes before completing his hattrick early in the second half.

Domaine Rouse’s own goal and a clinical finish by Matthew Dudley completed the rout as Kendal picked up their first win since Boxing Day,

Town manager David Foster made some interesting changes to his team line up as Sam Bailey, Charlie Bailey and Danny Forbes started on the bench, while Yawson made his first start for the club up front.

The Mintcakes struggled for the first ten minutes as Droylsden played with a lot of confidence and created the better chances. Steve Hall headed the ball wide from a Luke Daly corner for the visitors while Liam Caddick fired a tame shot at Will Kitchen when the talisman was left unmarked in the box.

Kendal’s defence remained firm as they blocked Tom Peer's effort on goal, before seeing off a half chance by Caddick.

But Kendal soon began to create opportunities of their own, most notably through Matt Poole who fired the ball wide from the edge of the area, while Martin Grundy’s powerful drive on goal flew just over the cross bar.

Kendal opened the scoring after 25 minutes when a cross into the box fell to the feet of Yawson who made no mistake in finishing from close range.

Droylsden almost equalised two minutes later through Callum Bagshaw who fired his effort straight into the arms of Kitchen, before Kendal captain Stuart McDonald headed the ball wide from a corner at the other end.

The visitors missed a guilt-edged opportunity on the stroke of half time when Jamie Frost toe poked the ball wide of the post when one on one with the keeper.

Kendal made it 2-0 one minute into the second half when Yawson deftly chipped the ball over Droylsden shot stopper James Coates. He completed his trio six minutes later as the Morecambe loanee nodded the ball past the keeper from close range.

Kendal continued to surge forward with Poole and Matt Dudley testing Droylsden keeper James Coates, before a deep Ben Thomas cross deflected into the net off Rouse as Foster’s team cruised into a 4-0 lead.

Dudley completed the scoring five minutes from time when he capitalised on a defensive mix up at the back to power the ball home as Kendal went 5-0 in front before Martin Grundy saw his goal-bound effort go wide of the post.

Kendal saw the last few minutes out with ease and they next travel to Colwyn Bay on Saturday before they face another tough game when they travel to play Bamber Bridge on Tuesday night.
