Kendal Town come back from two goals down to score five straight and record a resounding win over Worksop Town.
[Match Report by Shane Mason]
Hattrick hero Gary McEvatt scores his 5th in 2 games as part of an outstanding team performance at Sandy Lane.
The game started at a slow tempo with Kendal going forward well; a shot from McEvatt being collected comfortably by the Worksop keeper Mario Ziccardi.
Worksop then came back into the game with the talented Jamie Jackson shooting wide initially and then moments later putting the hosts in front with a neat finish on 18 minutes when he reacted quicker than the Kendal defence.
Things got worse for Kendal moments later when Matty Young then put Worksop 2-0 up, when the ball was pulled back neatly by Jackson and Young slotted it past Dootson.
Worksop's lead seemed to have kicked Kendal into life as they pulled a goal back 3 minutes later when McEvatt was put through on goal by Danny Wisdom and he chipped the ball over the Worksop keeper from 35-yards out; an early goal of the season contender for sure.
Kendal kept up the pressure for an equaliser as Dunn fired over and McEvatt headed wide.
Worksop's Matty Young had a shot tipped over the bar by Kendal stopper Craig Dootson and Jamie Jackson headed over from the resulting corner, proving Kendal were not going to have it easy.
Towards the end of the first half Gary McEvatt scored his and Kendal's second goal, the equalizing goal, on 41 minutes when Mark Jackson slid him in from the left and McEvatt finished cooly.
Kendal kicked on right after the interval when Alex Taylor's effort was parried by Ziccardi and McEvatt powered in the rebound to give Kendal the lead and McEvatt a richly deserved hattrick.
A Jackson effort went wide soon after and that alerted Worksop to keep pressing, but they couldn’t get through what was a solid Kendal defensive line.
Returning striker Alex Taylor then upped the score to 4-2 to Kendal. After spending weeks out of the squad he was put in by wideman Ciaran Donnelly, before rounding the defender's challenge and placing a beautiful curled effort beyond Ziccardi's reach. After his finish Taylor ran fully 40 yards to celebrate with Kendal Manager Lee Ashcroft.
Donnelly then put Kendal further in front after McEvatt was released down the left by Mark Jackson, who delivered a tempting ball into the Worksop area, which the keeper spilled and Donnelly wasn't far away to take full advantage and a 5-2 lead for Kendal Town.
Ashley Dunn was put through on goal just moments later but the effort was well saved by Ziccardi, who had up to this stage had a torrid afternoon with his defenders completely unable to assist him by cutting out the dangerous through-balls from Kendal's midfield.
Alex Taylor was then replaced by Kevin Leadbetter on 74 minutes and McEvatt for Farrell just moments later.
Just into injury time Worksop’s Burbeary was caught by Kendal's Ashley Dunn inside the area and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot.
Worksop’s Hudson scored the penalty and immediately after the penalty the referee blew his whistle for full time; the game finished Worksop Town 3-5 Kendal Town.
