'Like a Hurricane!' A convincing 17-0 win for Kendal Town Ladies as they put Keswick Ladies to the sword.
[Match Report by David Shankley]
Due to adverse weather & pitch conditions this fixture was played at The Queen Katherine School, Kendal.
On this late November day, all types of weather prevailed: wind, rain, sunshine, but the HURRICANE took place on the pitch!
Town scored regularly throughout, pinning the visitors back in their own half for long periods of the game. However, Keswick did have a couple of good chances, the best of these towards the end of the first half, forcing the home keeper Monica Staniek into action to save & keep another clean sheet.
The ‘black & whites’ started well: With only two minutes played Nessa temple drove into the opposition box for a well deserved opener. Nessa kept up the pressure and made it two for her & the team twelve minutes later. Two minutes later, defender (turned striker!) and player’s player of the match Vicky Jones met Jo Thompson’s excellent free kick for a tap in. Vicky made it a brace in the closing stages with an excellent strike from distance.
Kendal, on the front foot pressed home their advantage. Some great football ensued: passing, movement & patience on the ball and in the build up play resulted in more goals: Michelle Raven; Faye Armstrong; two from top scorer Jo Thompson; Brooke Kenny; a calmly taken Jen Carradus penalty, following Nessa being brought down in the box; and an own goal, gave a 10 – 0 score line at the break .
The second half was much the same as the first, Kendal in the hunt for more goals at every opportunity.
Others had already added to their first half goals and late in the game when Captain Lauren Downham slotted town’s second penalty of the day, there were now eight different town players on the score sheet. Brooke Kenny’s second just after the break was notable in that this was town’s 100th goal of the season, in the nine competitive matches played so far!
Again, Kendal were totally in control today and three more points now puts them in an excellent position to travel to Crown Newlaithes next weekend.
