Kendal Town Ladies keep up the pressure on the rest as they inflict confidence boosting 12-0 defeat on Carlisle City..

[Match Report by David Shankley]

Despite three home wins under their belts, not having played for three weeks showed in the early stages of town’s first away league game of the campaign.. Carlisle should have taken the lead on 7 minutes when a through ball caught Kendal napping, but keeper Monica Staniek saved brilliantly to concede a corner.

This was the wake-up call Kendal needed and on 10 minutes, Nicola Martindale fired home from 20 yds to settle the visitors.  However, the free flowing football which has been town’s trademark so far this season seemed to be lacking and it took until the half hour when Vicky Jones, playing as a left wingback, crossed well for ‘players player of the match’ Michelle Raven to slot the ball neatly into the net for 0-2.

Now in their stride, Kendal pressed for more goals. In form Nessa Temple added two, followed by two more after the break; Lauren Downham made the half time score 0-5, by netting from close range, just before the break and made it a brace a couple of minutes into the second half, with an accurate shot.

‘Sharpshooter’ Jo Thompson, who has now scored in each of town’s six competitive games this season – a great record! didn’t disappoint, with a clinical second half hat trick, the third being the most notable with 15 minutes to play: from Kendal’s own half.. Throw-in by Sarah Upton, flicked on by Michelle Raven, driven forward by Nessa Temple, passed to Emma Chadwick, who crossed perfectly from the by-line, for Jo to tap home!  A great team move & excellent to watch!

During the second half Carlisle looked potentially dangerous on a couple of occasions, but this was snuffed out by town’s back three, lead by Jen Carradus who put in a very solid performance on the day.

To finish an excellent all round team performance, against a very spirited Carlisle City side, Vicky Jones scored her first goal of the season with 5 minutes remaining.. a tap in, on the line, from a goalmouth scramble, following a town free kick from just outside the penalty box!   Despite the home side’s claims for offside, the goal stood, for a final score of 0-12.  Three more points & top of the league. Excellent!!
