Kevin Leadbetter's 7th minute penalty strike is enough to defeat Nantwich Town and earn a swift revenge for last Saturday's FA Cup defeat and send Kendal Town through to Monday's FA Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round draw.

Kendal Town gained a cup revenge over Nantwich Town, courtesy of a seventh minute Kevin Leadbetter penalty.

Nantwich had been responsible for Kendal's FA Cup elimination just seven days ago, but a trip on Danny Wisdom by Liam Prince allowed Leadbetter to fire the hosts into an early lead from the spot.

It was a smart save from Kendal keeper Tom Newton however, that prevented Sean Cooke squaring affairs just three minutes later from a free-kick.

It could have been two to Kendal shortly after as Danny Williams drive from distance crashed into the crossbar and Town striker Gary McEvatt could only direct the rebound over the bar. Nantwich keeper John Brain was down several minutes after colliding heavily with the post attempting to reach Williams' shot.

The home side went on to dominate the half, with Danny Williams twice denied by some excellent goalkeeping by Brain.

The Dabbers came back into the tie in the second half, as Ben Mills ignored appeals for offside only to see his firmly struck effort well saved by Newton.

Cooke looked set to level the scores just minutes later as the ball found him unmarked at the far post, but he lifted his effort well over the bar.

As the visitors pushed on, Kendal's Mark Jackson skipped away from his marker. But Nantwich substitute Cameron Mitchell came to the rescue, preventing Williams from doubling the home team's lead as he cut out the subsequent centre.

The last chance was to come in added time with a Nantwich free-kick. The ball bounced in the six-yard box and was eventually gathered by a grateful Newton.
