Much of the same as Kendal Town Ladies hit Crown Newlaithes Ladies for eleven as they continue their amazing start to the 2011/12 season with a home win at The Cosyseal Stadium.
[Match Report by David Shankley]
Captain Lauren Downham set out Town’s ambitions as early as the fourth minute in this encounter, with a low drive from 18 yards, which gave the visiting keeper no chance. Not to be outdone, two minutes later, Jo Thompson pounced onto a loose ball inside the penalty box to make it 2 - 0, to keep up her record of scoring in every game so far this campaign. Jo went on to notch four more in the second half, to keep her position as Town’s top scorer this season. Lauren added her second just before the break.
Despite Newlaithes trying to gain composure and get back into the game, Kendal continued to be strong all over the park, winning many of the battles with the opposition, particularly in midfield. Just before the half hour, striker Faye Armstrong played an exquisite one-two with Nicola Martindale, to slot the ball nonchalantly past the oncoming keeper. Faye completed her brace early into the second half.
Attacking midfielder Nessa Temple was always in the thick of the action and was rewarded with two first half goals, the second on the stroke of half time, with a ‘bullet header’ from a pin-point Nicola Martindale corner. Half Time: 6 - 0
For the first 20 minutes of the new half, the visitors played some good, competitive football and created two clear-cut chances, both of which were kept out by Town’s keeper Monica Staniek, who is growing in confidence with each game. Also, the back four played a tight controlled game to assist Monica in keeping a clean sheet.
Nicola Martindale provided excellent inter-play & assists throughout and her tireless running and work down the right wing gained her the ‘player’s player of the match’, for the second home game in succession.
All in all, a great positive performance, to keep Kendal Town Ladies at the top of the Cumbria Women’s League.
