Report: Kendal Town Vs Buxton

Saturday 8th October 2011

Kendal Town made it two league draws in a row as Buxton took a point back home to Derbyshire with them after a hard-battling performance at The Cosyseal Stadium, although the home side were guilty of missing the better chances during the encounter.

The home side were guilty of missing the better chances as Kendal Town and Buxton fought themselves to a goalless draw.

Playmaker Kevin Leadbetter's in-swinging free kick was met by Mark Jackson; Kendal's leading goalscorer, but he was unable to guide his header on target.

The same player was handed another goal-scoring opportunity following good work from full-back Danny Wisdom, but Bucks keeper Scott Hartley saved well with his legs.

The pacey Danny Williams took up a dangerous position just minutes later as Kendal dominated the early exchanges, but the resulting shot was weak.

Wayne Curtis sprung the offside trap on the half-hour and his low centre was met by Jackson once more, but Jackson's unconvincing close-range effort allowed Hartley to make another save with his legs.

Buxton's only real first-half threat was a Martin Pemberton right-wing centre that picked out striker Mark Reed, who could do no better than head over home goalkeeper Tommy Newton's crossbar.

The Derbyshire team came back into the game in the second half, but it was the Cumbria side who again carved out the better chances.

Further home pressure came to nothing as Curtley Williams shone at the heart of the Buxton defence.

Kendal's run without a win is now six games.
