Report: Chasetown Vs Kendal Town

Saturday 24th September 2011

Wayne Curtis scored his first goal in a Kendal Town shirt away at Chasetown, but it was not enough to prevent Town from the unwanted record of four straight league defeats.

With the defensive pair of Danny Wisdom and Rory Winters both still sidelined through injury, Kendal Town boss Lee Ashcroft's team selection was dealt a further blow when attacking midfielder Kevin Leadbeatter became a late withdrawal, failing a pre-match fitness test.

The home side's Ben Jevons almost carved out a 6th minute opener however Kendal's Kieran Walmsley anticipated well, blocking the towering striker's effort at the near post.

However just minutes later a deep cross from wide left then picked out Jordan Johnson who headed back across the face of goal allowing Danny Smith to nod home, giving his side the early lead.

Moments later the woodwork prevented a further Chasetown goal when Dean Perrow somehow sent the ball goal bound from the tightest of angles and it was Ciaran Donnelly who hacked the ball away after it had struck the inside of the post.

Kendal were soon to claim a leveller of the highest calibre. Danny Williams once again deputising at full back went on a dazzling run from deep and after riding four challenges was able to put the ball up at the back post where Wayne Curtis chested down before calmly firing in his first goal in a Kendal Town shirt.

Town Captain Marc Joseph's guided header back to Goalkeeper Craig Dootson looked to be destined for the net on the half hour but the much travelled custodian adjusted well to make a crucial finger tip save .

On 34 minutes Chasetown were back in front when Jevons reacted first to the ball sweeping home from close range, seeing Kendal left trailing at the interval.

Town started the second half much better and Curtis did well to pick out the unmarked Williams, however the subsequent goal attempt was dragged wide of goal.

Minutes later Williams and Kendal winger Mark Peers both sprung the offside trap however Williams saw his center intercepted denying Peers a certain goal.

Late in the day midfielder Ashley Dunn almost claimed a point for kendal blazing over at the near post after clever work from promising substitute Tom Kilifin.
