KTFC Ladies Vs Carlisle City Ladies

Sunday 18th September 2011

High Five Thompson on target again, as Kendal Town Ladies start 2011/12 league campaign with an emphatic 15-1 home win at The Cosyseal Stadium.

[Match Report by David Shankley - Assistant Manager of Kendal Town Ladies.]

Despite the scoreline, at times Carlisle City proved to be stubborn opposition for Kendal Town Ladies in this first league game of the season for both teams.  The visitors defended well during spells of the game and City striker Amy Brown beat Town’s offside trap, to score a great goal; shooting low across the home keeper, on the stroke of half time.  However, by then the damage had been done, Kendal already leading by eight, and adding to this with a further seven in the second half, to record their highest ever league win.

A blistering opening 8 minutes saw Nessa Temple meet the ball from a Carlisle goal kick to fire Town into the lead; Nicola Martindale finished with style from 18 yards following a good passing move; and Joanne Thompson opened her account from 12 yards out with a cool finish, giving the visiting keeper no chance.

Although Carlisle regrouped and stemmed the tide for a short while, Kendal scored a further five, including two from inspirational captain Lauren Downham, and a great close range header from Jo Thompson, from a pin-point Nicola Martindale free kick, before Carlisle responded.  Half time: 8 – 1.

Substitute striker Faye Armstrong, replacing injured Michelle Raven at the break, made an immediate impact, finishing a good passing sequence with style.  More goals followed, with Jo Thompson, Nessa Temple & Brooke Kenny all completing their hat tricks.

Much of Kendal’s creativity started at the back and flowed through the midfield, notably via Nessa Temple who made numerous charging runs forward; Brooke Kenny who constantly tormented City’s right back and the excellent (& well deserved) ‘player’s player of the match’ Nicola Martindale, who made countless tackles, charging runs and assists throughout the game.

A great team effort to get the league campaign off to a good start, with three points on the board!
