Match Report of Kendal Town Ladies record breaking 19-0 win to Penrith AFC Dev Ladies..

Sunday 11th September 2011

Kendal Town Ladies start 2011/12 season with record breaking win, in defence of their League Cup title as they beat Penrith AFC Dev Ladies 19-0.

[Match Report by Ladies Team Assistant Manager David Shankley]

Kendal Town Ladies started the 2011/12 campaign with a very convincing display & away win at Penrith in the Cumbria Women’s League Cup quarter final at Frenchfields on Sunday.  The final score being the highest win in a competitive match for Town’s ladies, ever!

After a tense start, Kendal Captain, Lauren Downham broke the deadlock for the visitors on 12 minutes with powerful low shot, from a well rehearsed free-kick routine with Jo Thompson. Most of the game was being played in the Home side’s half, Town continually pressing for a second, which eventually came on the half hour, when Brooke Kenny fired into the roof of the net, after winning the ball inside the Penrith penalty box.

More comfortable now; and despite Penrith’s defensive endeavours, Kendal’s free flowing passing game started to pay dividends, with four goals in a 10 minute spell, including a Lauren Downham penalty, following a foul on Nessa Temple and a Jo Thompson hat trick, to make the score 0 – 6 to the visitors at half time.

After the break, Town continued in the same mode and the home keeper made a couple of good saves and the woodwork also kept Kendal out.  However, the scoring continued at will; Jo Thompson and Lauren Downham adding to their own tally’s, with five & three goals, respectively!  Further goals were added by the ever predatory Nessa Temple (2); winger Michelle Raven, and defender Jen Carradus.

Players’ ‘Girl of the Game’ Lauren Hackett totally controlled the left side of the pitch, pushing forward as well as defending throughout.  ‘Ginge’, as she is known, also contributed to many of the intricate passing moves, two of which resulted in goals for Town; her crossfield ball for Jo Thompson to finish was perfect; and her brilliant solo run and exquisite finish in the last minute gave the home keeper no chance, to complete an excellent individual performance.

A great team effort and into the Semi Final of the League Cup where they will face Crown Newlaithes away. This fixture will be played on Sunday 29th January 2012.
