Second-half goals from Danny Williams and Captain Marc Joseph earn Kendal Town all three points and inflict Hednesford's first defeat of the season in an enthralling game of football at Parkside this afternoon..
Match Report by John Wharton.
Kendal Town Captain Marc Joseph ensured his side maintained their 100% home record as he headed home a pinpoint Kieran Walmsley free kick two minutes from time to seal maximum points for Lee Ashcroft's side.
In the end it was just reward for a committed team display, full of focus and belief against a strong and organised Hednesford Town side who had come into the game unbeaten; boasting four wins from the opening four league games.
Lee Ashcrofts' line-up showed just one change from their midweek home success over whitby with the fit again Alex Taylor returning to the attack with Gary McEvatt dropping to the substitutes bench.
Kendal started well enough with Danny wisdom and Danny williams once again linking up to good effect down the left flank. Wisdom was responsible for a couple of decent goal attempts early on after getting forward well. Alex Taylor also had a couple of attempts on goal he will have wished he could have made a better contact with.
At the other end Hednesford's Danny Quinn was a willing runner and should have done better on the half-hour mark when he got a clean sight of goal, however he shot tamely allowing home goalkeeper Craig Dootson to make a comfortable save. Moments later the same player squandered a headed opportunity, this time the ball clearing the Kendal cross bar.
A quality Walmsley inswinging free kick on 35min was met by Marc Joseph, however the effort went the wrong side of the post and five mins later as kendal pressed again winger Danny Williams was unfortunate to be penalised after harassing the defender out of possession deep inside the penalty area.
The visitors started the second half well, applying good pressure in the opening minutes. Captain Darren Campion's well struck free kick forced a full stretch save from Dootson, whilst Quinn did well cutting in from the right, but with options available he crossed poorly.
Mark Jackson had a headed effort well cleared off the line by Hednesford defender Cheyenne Dunkley after another fine delivery from set-piece specialist Kieran Walmsley.
On the hour Williams clever shot on the turn almost found a way past Hednesford keeper Crane, but made no mistake on 75min when he headed home a Mark Peers cross from the right, much to the delight of the home fans. The cross just eluded Mark Jackson at the near post but Williams timing his run perfectly made it 1-0.
However this entertaining contest was all square again on 85 minutes and it was substitute Jamey Osbourne who stroked the ball home into the bottom corner just seconds after his introduction.
This lead was to last just 3 minutes though as Kendal once again grabbed a goal from a setpiece, with what proved to be the match winner, Walmsley sent in another quality free kick delivery and it was the popular skipper Marc Joseph who rose above the defence to head the ball home.
