Tom Kilifin came off the bench to score Kendal Town's winner against Whitby Town and maintain the hosts' 100 per cent home record.

Whitby took the lead from the penalty spot in the ninth minute after Rory Winters bundled over Matty Tymon, allowing Mark Robinson to slot home to Craig Dootson's left.

Kendal pressed to get back into the match in the first half but efforts from Gary McEvatt and Keiran Walmsley failed to get Town back on level terms at the break.

A somewhat lacklustre match burst into life in the second half and on 49 minutes Kevin Burgess was given his marching orders for an elbow in the back on Mark Jackson.

Kendal made the most of their man advantage and equalised just five minutes later.

A McEvatt strike from the edge of the box was parried by keeper David Campbell, but his follow up effort deflected off strike partner Mark Jackson and into the net.

Tempers started to fray but Town got on top and looked the more likely with Danny Williams coming to life on the left wing and Mark Peers striding forward at every opportunity on the right.

With the scores level and the referee having a shocker, with several poor decisions, the player count was soon 10 apiece.

In a bizarre incident referee Thomas Rogers sent off Ashley Dunn.

Substitute Tom Kilifin went in for a challenge with keeper Campbell and the ball appeared to bobble back out.

The waiting Dunn put his boot in to challenge for the ball, but referee Rogers judged Campbell to have a grip on the ball and awarded a straight red to Dunn, while Kilifin received a yellow card for the fracas that followed.

But Kilifin was to hit the headlines for the right reasons as Town turned the game on its head when he got on the end of a Danny Williams cross on 81 minutes to put Kendal 2-1 up.

Five minutes of injury time were awarded and in the 93rd minute Dootson pushed an Alex White effort from close range onto the bar and behind.

Walmsley should have put the icing on the cake a minute later when Danny Williams was tripped in the box, but Campbell saved the penalty and Kendal had to settle for a 2-1 victory from an enthralling match.
