Goals from Danny Williams and Mark Jackson gave Kendal Town the perfect start to the Evo-Stik Premier League as they defeated Worksop Town 3-0 at Parkside Road this afternoon.

After a somewhat slow start from both sides the game kicked into life on the half hour mark as Kendal took control.

Making his Town league debut Mark Peers darted into the box from the right wing, skipping past two Worksop defenders before playing a through ball for Jackson.

Jackson nipped around keeper Jon Wornsop but his pull back was cleared from danger.

A minute later though, a telling move gave Kendal a true grip on the game as Danny Williams volleyed home.

Marc Joseph played a long ball forward for Jackson, who laid the ball off to Keiran Walmsley on the right of goal.

Breaking into the box Walmsley dinked the ball to the back stick where the unmarked Williams fired into the roof of the net with 31 minutes on the clock.

And just two minutes later, Kendal had doubled their lead when Walmsley whipped a corner into the box from the left.

Jackson wheeled away to celebrate a header at the near post, but it was later deemed the final touch came off Worksop's James Cotterill.

It remained 2-0 at the break with Kendal looking solid at the back under the guidance of experienced duo Marc Joseph and Sean Gregan.

There was to be more of the same in the second half as Kendal lifted their performance.

Some strong displays and training sessions have clearly paid off for Lee Ashcroft's men and it was 3-0 on 50 minutes.

This time there was no confusing the goalscorer as Jackson etched his name firmly on the scoresheet by stroking home Williams' cross after good work on the left.

Town kept the pressure coming with a very solid, all-round display.

Ashley Dunn controlled the midfield with Ciaran Donnelly playing the holding role in the centre as the Black and Whites had a much more attacking 4-4-2 formation.

On 58 minutes the ball was fed to the edge of the box for Walmsley, whose shot at Wornsop was well blocked, with the follow up effort from Dunn being skied over the bar.

Minutes later Dunn fired just over the top after good link up play between Danny Wisdom and Alex Taylor, resulted in the ball landing at his feet 10 yards out.

Jackson took a tumble on 68 minutes and was replaced by Mason McGeechan with Ashcroft opting not to risk further damage to a twisted ankle.

And later on Walmsley was to come off with a twisted ankle, but he is expected to feature against Northwich Victoria on Tuesday night.

Worksop's best spell of the game came in the closing stages and they could have had a penalty on 80 minutes.

A ball over the top saw a straight race between Adam Muller and Town's Marc Joseph, and while Muller reached the ball first, a superb tackle saw Joseph clear the ball and the referee waved away the visiting side's calls for a penalty.

Marc Roberts headed wide unchallenged from a Mark Hudson corner in the dying stages but Town were comfortable and sit joint top of the league with three points and a clean sheet in the bag.
