Carlisle United gave Kendal Town a stern test for their first Pre-Season match at Parkside, prevailing with a comprehensive 5-1 scoreline.
Carlisle United gave Kendal Town a stern test for their first pre-season match at Parkside Road in winning 5-1.
On a rain-filled evening in Kendal, United showed their class in being several divisions higher in League One, but Town were impressive going forward.
Lee Ashcroft has brought in several new faces and a couple of old faces to have a look at during pre-season and they certainly ensured the game remained a contest.
United, who brought their first team to South Cumbria, broke the deadlock on 14 minutes when James Berrett struck beyond debutant keeper Craig Dootson.
And they made it two on 36 minutes when Craig Curran followed up a Rory Loys effort to give United a 2-0 half time lead.
Kendal were pacy going forward though with returning striker Andy Bell and Mark Peers leading the midfield.
In the second half United swept the changes with a whole new 11 taking to the field.
And the boost in pace with fresh legs saw them score three further goals through Stuart Green (48mins), Andy Welsh (82mins) and Francois Zoko (88mins).
But Town keeper Dootson showed his calibre with some fine saves from Paddy Madden and Zoko, and a consolation from Gary McEvatt gave the home crowd something to cheer about, with 669 fans packed into Parkside Road.
Kendal Team: 1 - Dootson, 2 - Barnett, 3 - Wisdom, 4 - Tucker, 5 - Joseph, 6 - Donnelly, 7 - Peers (12 - McGahon 46), 8 - Bell, 9 - Jackson (14 - McEvatt 46), 10 - Dunn (Kilford 80), 11 - Williams. Subs - Dixon, Ward, Moss
